There's not a lot in Fort Davis, but it's in a beautiful area. It's close to Marfa and Alpine, and it is in the Davis Mountains. We did the Fort Davis Scenic Loop, which is a 75-mile (or so) loop through the Davis Mountains with some impressive scenery and a couple of pull-outs for photography. (There's not a lot of traffic, so you can pull over if there is something interesting to see.) It's a quick drive if you just do it, but that misses the point, Where else are you going to see mountains, hills, a State Park (with a really nice restaurant), the McDonald Observatory and cattle, all in one afternoon? Stop and read the historical markers, at least.Â
