Some times, you realize that a road you drove across now and then is actually a vital artery. For us, it's US-67.
My original experience with it was as the first (southbound) or last (northbound) portion of the "back way" to San Antonio when I was in college. I would take US-67 to Texas 220, a short-cut to US-281 which becomes San Pedro Blvd in San Antonio.
My son and I went to Glen Rose to see the dinosaur tracks.
The longest trip we've taken on US-67 is all the way to southern end (well, we could see it) in Presidio, Texas.
I noticed that it was a natural route from Dallas to Big Bend, but assumed Virginia would want to take the Interstates, so I didn't bring it up. Then, our FarFlung tour guide mentioned that she would take it back and forth when visiting family in East Texas, so then it became an option.
When we had our weekend in Brownwood, we took it home. At that point, I realized we had been on US-67 through San Angelo (which was south of us) and on US-67 through Stephenville (which was north), which meant we had been through Brownwood before - we just hadn't stopped. Had we known about some of the restaurants, we would have.
It's a great road until you get close to the Metroplex. Then, it gets a bit clogged.
