There are a couple of places I always wanted to see which aren't really anywhere along a route to somewhere we were going anyway, so it means we either need a trip just there or we need to adjust one of our usual routes. In this case, I always wanted to visit Judge Roy Bean's museum and I want to see the Amistad Resevoir - both of which are along US-90 between San Antonio and the Big Bend area.
I thought we could just drive to San Antonio and then head west but it was going to add a lot of time and miles, so I wanted to see if we could cut out San Antonio. We could always just go to San Antonio and across, but I thought it might be more interesting to see other parts of the State.
So, this is what I devised - Dallas to Stephenville (Hard-Eight BBQ for lunch), onto Brownwood (stop at Underwood's Cafeteria), head to Junction (Cooper's BBQ for more BBQ), then on to Langtry (one of the reasons for the trip in the first place - to see Judge Roy Bean's Jersey Lilly), continue on to Amistad Reservoir (the other reason for the trip) and then on to Alpine (and perhaps Big Bend.)
